Honors seminars are discussion-based courses designed for first-year students who seek academic challenges beyond the traditional classroom experience. At Iowa State University, the Honors Program offers a variety of honors seminars each year, covering a wide range of topics from the humanities to the sciences.
Honors seminars are typically small, with no more than 15 students, which allows for in-depth discussion and exploration of complex ideas not seen in regular courses. The curriculum of honors seminars is designed by faculty members who are experts in their fields and is supplemented by guest speakers, field trips, and other experiential learning opportunities.
